The UNT Art Gallery organizes exhibitions throughout the year in pursuit of its mission to support the educational goals of the university, enrich the aesthetic environment of the community and serve as a cultural resource for the public at large. In 2007, in partnership with the Art Education and Art History Department at the College of Visual Arts and Design, the gallery initiated a research and exhibition series titled “Collections, Cultures and Collaborations,” in which graduate art education and art history students create original scholarship on works in a private, public or corporate art collection. The inaugural exhibition was titled Collections, Cultures and Collaborations and featured previously unstudied works from the CVAD permanent collection, including pieces by artists Sherri Levine, Phillip Pearlstein and Karl Appel, as well as presentations by Dr. Steve Conn, historian and professor at The Ohio State University, on the collection in context. In 2008 we celebrated the second project in the series, On the Body: Selected Works from The Rachofsky Collection, curated by Thomas Feulmer, Director of Educational Programming at The Rachofsky House, and featuring works by artists Janine Antoni, Felix Gonzales-Torres and Annette Lawrence. This academic year, we look forward to continuing the series by partnering with another distinctive Texas collection from Austin's Flatbed Press.

This project is funded in part by a grant from the Texas Commission on the Arts.
